Abstract

Connie Mutel, a Senior Science Writer at the University of Iowas IIHR-Hydroscience & En- gineering, has written and lectured extensively on Midwestern natural history and environ- mental issues. Her books include The Emer- ald Horizon: The History of Nature in Iowa, Fragile Giants: A Natural History of the Loess Hills, and The Tallgrass Restoration Hand- book for Prairies, Savannas, and Woodlands. This essay explains her efforts with her most recent book, A Sugar Creek Chronicle: Ob- serving Climate Change from a Midwestern Woodland, forthcoming from the University of Iowa Press in 2016.
